About Nathalie Whyte

Nathalie has experience as an advocate both in the legal and social/human service fields. Nathalie has worked with children, youth, and adults from all different backgrounds—in urban centres, rural, and First Nations communities.

Before becoming a lawyer, Nathalie was a social worker and worked in a variety of settings including Child and Family Services as well as health care (both acute care and in the community). Through her work as a social worker, Nathalie developed a number of skills including being able to engage and work effectively with clients in crisis as well as problem-solving from a client-centred perspective. Nathalie has found these skills to be invaluable in the practice of law.

Nathalie has over 10 years of experience in civil litigation (with a focus on Treaty and Aboriginal Rights) and has experience in a variety of litigation matters including drafting (complex) pleadings, affidavit evidence, motions, examinations for discovery, judicial review, and appeals.

Nathalie has appeared at all levels of Court, including the Alberta Provincial Court, Alberta Queen’s Bench, Manitoba Court of Appeal, Federal Court Trial Division, Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada (co-counsel and written submissions). Nathalie has appeared before various administrative tribunals.

Nathalie’s background in litigation brings valuable skills and knowledge into the area of family law practice. However, litigation is a very public and adversarial process which can be costly. Nathalie sees litigation as merely one tool among several and sees the value in other forms of resolution such as mediation and arbitration or other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

At Washington Whyte Law Office, we aim to create and tailor a legal plan and strategy developed with and for each client. We will take into consideration your goals and the best courses of action and options available to you.
